The Centre for Family Education Research (CFER) is the first research centre established at Testament Theological Seminary (TTS), and stands as the seminary’s flagship institution for scholarly inquiry into the theology, education, ministry, and discipleship of the Christian family. CFER was founded and is directed by Timothy Imuwahen, whose research vision gave rise to the centre and continues to shape its intellectual identity.
CFER exists at the intersection of four disciplines that have too often been pursued in isolation: family theology, family education, family ministry, and family discipleship. The centre brings these disciplines into sustained, rigorous, and mutually enriching conversation, producing scholarship that is academically credible, contextually grounded, pastorally engaged, and missionally oriented.
Rooted in the Nigerian context of West Africa and attentive to the particular witness of Pentecostal household practice, CFER contributes to both African and global conversations about the family as the primary community of Christian formation. Its publications are disseminated through TTS Press and through AJOKE (African Journal of Kingdom Education), ensuring that the centre’s research reaches scholars, practitioners, and church leaders across the continent and beyond.
To theologically and contextually engage Christian families as a community formed at home, sustained by the church, and sent into society, for the renewal of family life, the equipping of the church, and the transformation of society.
To be the leading African research centre for the theological study of the family, producing scholarship that serves the academy, the church, and the household in equal measure.
CFER pursues its mission through four core aims that correspond to its four integrating disciplines:
At the heart of CFER is the Research Lab of its Founding Director, Timothy Imuwahen. This is the main workspace for CFER’s research agenda. The Research Lab coordinates the centre’s flagship projects, including The Family Trilogy series, oversees research partnerships, and serves as the intellectual engine of the centre. The Lab functions as both a physical and conceptual space, a place of sustained thinking, writing, and scholarly production dedicated to the theology of the family.
Independent scholars and researchers fund the Centre for Family Education Research (CFER). We honestly and humbly seek funders.
